Senior Backend EngineerBerlin | HybridWe're working with an established technology business that is continuing to invest heavily in its engineering capabilities. They're looking for a Senior Backend Engineer with strong Python experience to join a collaborative product team and take ownership of important backend services and cloud infrastructure. This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys building robust systems, improving performance and working closely with engineers across the wider product organisation.

The Role

Your responsibilities will include:

• Designing and developing scalable backend services using Python and AWS
• Building efficient serverless applications and APIs
• Working with technologies such as AWS Lambda, S3 and other AWS services
• Developing and maintaining APIs using frameworks such as FastAPI, Django or Flask
• Designing and optimising data solutions using PostgreSQL, DynamoDB and caching technologies
• Improving application performance, reliability and scalability
• Establishing and improving automated testing, including unit, integration and end-to-end testing
• Contributing to CI/CD processes and engineering standards
• Working with modern dependency and package management approaches
• Helping maintain clean, well-documented and maintainable codebases
• Contributing to the architecture and integration of backend services with other parts of the wider technology ecosystem
• Working closely with frontend engineers, QA, product, UX/UI and AI specialists
• Taking an active role in an agile development environment and contributing ideas that improve how the team works

What We're Looking For

You'll ideally bring:

• 5+ years of professional backend development experience
• Strong commercial experience with Python
• Experience with TypeScript and/or JavaScript
• Hands-on experience building APIs and backend services
• Experience with frameworks such as FastAPI, Django, Flask or similar
• Strong knowledge of relational databases, particularly PostgreSQL
• Experience with NoSQL technologies such as DynamoDB would be beneficial
• Good understanding of AWS and cloud-based architecture, particularly serverless technologies
• Experience with automated testing and modern software development practices
• Familiarity with CI/CD tooling such as GitHub Actions
• A good understanding of software architecture, design patterns, scalability and performance is a must
• Experience working within an agile engineering team
