• Design, plan, and lead network engineering tasks and systems supporting USAFE-AFAFRICA/A6’s BlackNet Operations Center • Define engineering and corrective-action priorities for the network engineering team and lead optimization initiatives • Design network systems for current and future organizational requirements • Provide network architecture specifications and detailed schematics, including topology diagrams, IP addressing schemes, and segmentation plans • Develop network design documentation, technical specifications, implementation plans, and configuration standards • Create architecture blueprints incorporating security, redundancy, and scalability • Plan present and future capacity requirements through modeling and forecasting • Manage and expand network interconnections, co-location sites, points of presence, and deployments to Top Secret datacenters • Improve network performance and reliability using system performance metrics • Lead network integration and troubleshooting across complex environments • Collaborate with hardware, software, network, and cross-functional engineering teams • Build automation for network devices, operational tools, and deployment processes • Research and specify network hardware and software • Conduct performance testing and optimization to meet service level agreements • Maintain expertise in network and computer hardware/software interconnection and interfacing • Perform or develop schedules for on-call support for IT networking outages and maintenance reporting • Ensure compliance with DISA STIG Checklist and other security standards • Configure and maintain network access controls and authentication mechanisms • Support security audits and vulnerability assessments • Maintain certification and accreditation documentation • Apply security patches and updates according to organizational policies • Perform additional duties as assigned or required Requirements • 9 years relevant experience with Bachelors in related field; 7 years relevant experience with Masters in related field; 4 years relevant experience with PhD or Juris Doctorate in related field; or High School Diploma or equivalent and 13 years relevant experience • Full understanding and wide application of technical principles, theories, and concepts in the networking field • General knowledge of cybersecurity, systems administration, and cloud computing • Expert knowledge of networking protocols such as TCP/IP, BGP, OSPF, MPLS, EIGRP, VRF, SRV6, VPNs, spanning tree, and VLANs • Proficiency in network design principles and architecture frameworks • Deep understanding of OSI model and protocol stack interactions • Knowledge of network security principles, technologies, and best practices • Familiarity with virtualization technologies and software-defined networking • Understanding of disaster recovery and business continuity planning for networks • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills for complex network issues • Ability to translate business requirements into technical network solutions • Strategic thinking to align network architecture with organizational objectives • Excellent troubleshooting and diagnostic capabilities • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Technical Expert Status Accreditation (TESA) to live and work in Germany • Must possess and maintain a TS/SCI clearance and obtain/maintain additional clearance or accesses required by specific customer requirements • Bonus: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Network Engineering, or related field • Bonus: Industry certifications such as JNCIA-Junos, JNCIS-ENT, JNCIP-ENT, or JNCIE-ENT • Bonus: Additional certifications such as CCNA, CCNP, CCIE, or equivalent • Bonus: 2–4 years of hands-on network engineering experience, including configuring and supporting Juniper hardware • Bonus: Experience with Department of Defense network environments and security requirements • Bonus: Background working with Top Secret systems and secure network infrastructure • Bonus: Familiarity with government compliance frameworks and standards • Capable of climbing ladders and tolerating confined spaces and extreme temperature variances Core Competencies Demonstrates expertise in network engineering, including design, optimization, and troubleshooting of complex network systems.
